This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of feeding with spirulina on immunity system in catfish, Pangasius hypophtalamus. For this purpose, totally 112 fish were randomly distributed in to 5 glass aquaria (20 fish/tank). The experiment was conducted in 4 treatment and 1 control group. Five diets containing varying levels of spirulina (0,2.5, 5, 7.5, 10%) were prepared and fed to the fish five times a day to 3% of their body weight during 35 days. At the end of the experiment period, blood samples were taken by cutting the caudal peduncle of fish at the level of anus. Blood samples were analyzed with routine methods used in fish hematology and following parameters were measured: White blood cell count (WBC) and leucocyte differential count. According to the results, no significant difference was observed between white blood cells count (WBC), monocyte and neutrophil treatments. But significant differences were observed in lymphocyte between treatment compared to control group (P≤0.05), and the largest number was recorded in control group. The result showed that using different treatments of Spirulina platensis probably had no effect on the specific – immune system in Pangasius hypophtalamus but increased numbers of neutrophils. Increasing the numbers of neutrophil are showing effect of spirulina on phagocytosis and improvement of immune system in this species.
