Abstract

Survey on reproduction biology of Pharaoh cuttlefish Sepia pharaonis Ehrenberg,1831 were investigated from November 2017 to May 2019 in Northern waters of Persian Gulf (Hormozgan province). A total of 474 specimens were collected seasonally from catches of Ferdows 1 research vessels ,landings and fish market in Bandar Abbas and trsnsfered to the laboratory for further biological surveys. The reproduction cycle, sexual maturity, sex ratio, Fecundity, Lm50, length frequency, growth parameters and mortality of S. pharaonis were studied from total of 414specimens ranged from 11 to 375mm mantle length and 42 to 3926 grams body weight. Maximum and minimum NGI and GSI index in female were caLculated in winter(5. 37, 4. 13) and summer(3. 44 , 3. 05)respectively. Also Maximum and minimum CSI and GSI index in male were observed in winter(0. 97, 1. 21) and summer(0. 66 , 0. 61)respectively that showed spawning occurs around in end of winter and spring. The overall male to female ratio was significantly 1 : 1. 85 (P<0. 05). Absulute fecundity was estimated by counting the number of mature ova, wich varied from 184 to 1188. Relationship between mantle length and fecundity were calculated F=1. 3717ML 2. 9567 (r2= 0. 82). Females reached 50% sexual maturity at 193. 3 mm ML.
