Abstract

In this experiment, the effect of spleen meal on yield, carcass characteristics and immune response in broilers was investigated. 300 Cobb broilers were randomly assigned to 3 groups and each group had 5 replicates and 20 chickens per replication. Treatments included diets containing 0, 3 and 6% levels of spleen meal. broilers receiving spleen meal had higher weight gain than control birds (p <0.05). The FCR improved in the treatments that received spleen meal (p <0.05). Also, in the period of 0-42 days, diets containing spleen meal consumed significantly more food than the control group (p≤0.001). traits was not affected by dietary treatments. The use of 6% spleen meal increased the length of jejunal villi, decreased the depth of crypt duodenum and jejunum level compared to 3% and 0% level increased the length of jejunal villi, decreased the depth of crypt duodenum and jejunum. Addition of spleen meal to the diet significantly increased the ratio of villi length to crypt depth. Based on the results of the present experiment, spleen meal can have a positive effect on the performance as well as the gut morphology of broilers.
