Abstract

Myctophids are the most important families of mesopelagic fishes in the world s waters. Benthosema pterotum lantern fish is dominant species in the Oman Sea. Stocks management requires to knowing recruitment and cohorts of fish populations. In this study to identification cohorts and recruitments patterns of lantern fish in totally 2894 samples from April 2019 to March 2020 were analyzed. Total lengths ranged 21-60mm with average 39/4 mm. average total lengths shown significant difference in seasons and various months. Cohorts separation done by batacharia method and recruitment patterns were done by FiSAT II software. The numbers of cohorts in this survey were determined 1-3 age groups. Recruitment pattern had just one peak and maximum recruitments relative power have seen in May, June and July with 12.93%, 12%, and 15/22% respectively. Each 4 months tend to December a new cohort added in the population of this fishes. These results were showed that the maximum biomass will appear at late spring and summer.
