Abstract

In this study, the aging of pharaoh cuttlefish (Sepia pharaonis) as the most dominant cephalopod species in the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea was conducted by using Polishing Method. A total of 80 specimens were collected and then morphometric measurements and sex determination was performed. The stotoliths were extracted from head for further preparation process by special papers with numbers of 1000, 1500, 2000 & 2500 in presence of Alumina and 0.1M EDTA. The results of length-weight relationship regression revealed that this species has an isometric growth. Also, the maximum age was determined about 3 years for a male with 32.5cm of mantle length.
