Abstract

The market structure represents the organizational characteristics of the market and with the help of these characteristics, the relationship between market components can be determined. Market structure is in fact those organizational characteristics of the market that can be identified by determining the nature of pricing and competition in that market. In this study, the structure of the global chicken meat market was examined in terms of competitiveness or monopoly and its impact on the import of this product in Iran. The data of this study based on the production quantity of the top chicken producing countries in the world during the period 2011-2020, which was collected from the statistical database of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). The results showed that the global chicken meat market, based on the concentration ratio index, is not a complete or dominant monopoly market and is a multilateral monopoly. Based on the demand pattern of chicken meat imports in Iran, the findings showed that the concentration ratio has a negative impact on the import of this product in the country.
