The objectives of this study, was to evaluate the effect of dietary supplementation of brown algae (S. cristaefolium) on hepatopancreas digestive enzymes and hemolymph parameters of whiteleg shrimp (Penaeus vannamei). In this study six hundred Penaeus vannamei were fed with diets containing different levels of S.cristaefolium powder (control group and then 5 g/kg, 10 g/kg, 20 g/kg, and 40 g/kg w/w) for 60 days. Shrimp were randomly sampled at the end of the experiment. The results showed that Amylase activity of shrimp fed 10, 20 and 40 g/kg S. cristaefolium diets was significantly higher than that of shrimp fed control and 5 g/kg S. cristaefolium diets (p < 0.0001). In addition, the maximum value of lipase activity was found in 40 g/kg S. cristaefolium diet and showed significant differences with other diet groups (p < 0.0001). No significant difference in urea, uric acid, and creatinine were observed (P>0.05). The glucose concentration was decreased when the concentration of S. cristaefolium was increased (p < 0.05). It’s seems that the inclusion of Sargassum cristaefolium at 40 g/kg have positive effect on digestive enzymes and therefore, it has the potential for use as a diet supplement for L. vannamei.
